Asimov's Science Fiction
by Sheila Williams (ed)Review by Sam Tomaino Penny Press Magazine ISBN/ITEM#: B00005N7VQ Date: January 2005 List Price $40.50 Amazon US / Amazon UK / Pub Info / Table of Contents / There are other good stories in this issue. "City of Reason" by Matthew Jarpe features a man who narrowly foils a plot to murder millions. "Water Angel" by Bruce McAllister tells of the sacrifice a mother can make for her children. "Rhine Maidens" by Larry Niven is a good little story in his "Magic Goes Away" universe. The other two stories in the magazine were not quite as good as these but still worth reading. "Invasion of the Axbeaks" by Phillip C. Jennings is about a man getting involved in a local war. My main problem with it is that I wish it were longer. I was disappointed in "Inside Job" by Connie Willis, which dealt with the "return" of H.L. Mencken to fight his old battles. My problem is that I think the way he returns is immoral. |
