Glorious Treason
by C.J. RyanReview by Paul Haggerty Spectra Paperback ISBN/ITEM#: 0553587773 Date: 29 November, 2005 List Price $6.99 Amazon US / Amazon UK / Show Official Info / Gloria has been sent to head up a team dedicated to getting the population registered. But to really do her job, she may have to directly disobey an imperial order, a move that would definitely result in a charge of treason. But in order to succeed at either plan requires her to outsmart and out maneuver greedy administrators and corporate executives (are they any other type in literature these days?) who either wish to cash in on the mining bounty, or preserve the planet as their own private reserve. Joined by the usual crop of good guy sidekicks who do all the technical work, Gloria once again proves that there's hardly a force in the universe that can't be overcome with a pair of naked breasts. And if that doesn't do the trick, just bare the rest and all resistance will fade. Strange as it may sound, I found myself beginning to skim over the long paragraphs describing Gloria's lack of clothing and impressive physical attributes, and there were many a paragraph to be skimmed. I was actually more interested in figuring out how Gloria was going to manage to get the job done and dodge the treason charge. And by the end, I was still waiting. While the good deeds are done and the galaxy saved, the only logical reason Gloria's actions wouldn't land her in prison is that she'll be needed for book 3. A bit silly and credulity straining, but not bad for a check your logic circuits at the door type read. |
