The Chronicles of Faerie: The Summer King

While Honor could probably have told Laurel that there would be a "gotcha" in that deal because she's loved reading about the legend and stories of Faerie, Laurel wants her sister back so much she's not about to ask questions. So she accepts the quest and then finds that perhaps not all the necessary information about the Summer King's background was what she expected. Laurel finds she's trying to free an insane killer only to light a fire so that Faerie and continue to exist. On the quest, she travels to her grandparents summer cottage on the coast and meets legends and fights an epic battle to find her soul, her morals, and her priorities.

When you meet with Faerie you change. That's the key element in every story that has ever been written about the line between Faerie and the world we know. That change can be a transforming one for both worlds and those involved. There is a lot at stake and Laurel is the key to it all -- she is the one to make the decisions that could end the existence of Faerie and what that contact brings to humanity or continue it for another seven years. You ache for Laurel and her lost sister and her guilt and you keep turning the pages hoping the decisions she makes would be the one's you'd make but knowing they have to be hers.

Again Melling gives us a story with depth and feeling. This is not a story for the faint of heart because it's going to tear at your heart.

Highly recommended. (And another great glossary of Gaelic terms, words, and pronunciations.)
