Despite not being known for her short fiction, Cherryh, over her nearly 30 year career as a professional writer, has written quite a few very fine short stories. Cherryh thanks DAW books' Elizabeth R. Wollheim for putting this collection together, and we should thank her, too. Cherryh's scattershot short fiction is generally hard to find. In her introduction she notes that she generally only writes short stories when there is no novel under construction. These stories first appeared as early as the late 70's and as late as less than two years ago.
