Merlotte's in Bon Temps is nearly empty as the storm gains strength, but there are still a few customers and staff: Jason Stackhouse, Sookie, Sam, Tara, Lafayette, Eric Northman, Bill Compton, an unnamed girl that Jason hopes to take home, and a couple of no-name-rednecks.

Ted, an imp Shaloop, has them sealed in until he gets what he wants a secret shame from each of them. Each story fills in some bit of backstory on the character telling the story. Ted has said once he gets a story from each of them he'll lift the shield that's keeping them inside Merlotte's and let them leave. However, since he kills most of the humans that are still in the bar, no one believes him.

The situation gets tense as they tell their stories and try to distract Ted so they can escape but it seems unlikely that they'll live out the night. Since this takes place before Sookie and Bill break up, most readers can guess that they'll survive, so it's how they manage to make it until morning that keeps you reading.

The art is realistic and the major characters are graphic representation of their television actors. The flashback artwork differs enough from the major storyline art that it's easy to know where you are in the narrative this is especially true with Eric's tale.

A must have for those who want to have a complete collection of everything Sookie. But it's also interesting for casual readers for the character backstories.
