The center of Furies of Calderon is a simple military story where a small band guard a pass against overwhelming hordes of barbarians. However this novel is not in Danish modern or even classical style, it is Baroque with ornaments and flourishes, peaks and crenelations, flying buttress and gargoyles. There is magic, rebellion, treachery, family secrets, state secrets, secret identities, magic tools, and strange alliances, coupled with plots and subplots, and an ove-rabundance of people.
