The Wishing World is described as a story for middle school readers, but it may appeal to older youths as well. Who has not dreamed of a world where dreams come true and good overcomes evil?

Lorelei is a young orphan. A year ago her parents and younger brother disappeared on a camping trip and were never heard from again. On the night the family vanished, Lorelei hid in the tent at the appearance of the shadow of a creepy tentacled creature against the tent walls. When she managed to get outside the tent, her parents and brother had vanished.

No one believed Lorelei about the creature. Her aunt and uncle took her in and engaged a psychiatrist to treat her. A year later she still yearns for her family.

One night, she sneaks out and returns to her old home. Inside, she encounters a griffin. He calls her a Doovilanti, a person with power to make dreams come true. When she tries to follow the creature, she can't. However, she is determined to find her family no matter what it takes.

Thus her great adventure begins in the Wishing World. Her parents and brother are held captive by a Doovilanti who refuses to release them. Somehow, Lorelei must discover the creature's weakness and how to defeat him and free her family.

The Wishing World is filled with enchanting creatures and legends. However, dangers exist as well when the evil Doovilanti fights to keep Lorelei's family as his own. She must find the strength to resist and use her brains to unravel the real identity of her opponent.

Time is running out.

After a slow start, the story moves along at an increasingly rapid pace. Lorelei must use her combined knowledge of the real world and the Wishing World to free her family. Some readers may not be familiar with all the strange creatures, but will find many to like. Except for some names, the language is straightforward and easy to follow.
