The Chronicles of St Mary's
by Jodi Taylor
* Just One Damned Thing After Another
* A Symphony of Echoes
* A Second Chance
* A Trail Through Time
* No Time Like the Past

Madeleine "Max" Maxwell was dealing with the loss of Leon Farrell and had taken the job of Deputy Director of St. Mary's. During her last jump to see the Battle of Agincourt, she ran into trouble. This particular trouble ended with a blade through her heart. Max fell forward and made a choice ending up on a carpet in the living room of Leon Farrell. Or rather it was a Leon Farrell who'd lost his Max in an alternative time line. St. Mary's existed but there were differences from the world she knew.

The biggest difference in this time line is that there were Time Police and, here in this now, she was dead not Leon. Max arrived in the early morning and by noon she and Leon were running for their lives. They weren't quite sure why or how the Time Police kept finding them or even why they were hunting them.

As usual, there is barely time to catch your breath between one scene of action and the next. Leon and Max jump from one time period to another hoping to find some breathing space to figure out what was going on and what they could or should do about it.

Eventually they decide to go with the St. Mary's standard operating procedure, and just face the problem head-on and figure it out as they go. This leads to lots of flying by the seat of their pants planning, some good luck, and staunch members of St. Mary's at their backs.

A Trail Through Time is another drama filled page-turner with interesting characters, lot of humor, a view of history that is as informative as those dry lectures in class weren't, and a love story. It's got all the elements as well as being an exciting adventure story of time travel.

If you've read the other novels in this series, you won't be disappointed. If this is the first time you've heard of the Chronicles of St. Mary's, you can start with this novel and then go back to the beginning and see how it all started.
