I can't believe it is June already. But, of course, it is June which is just a smidge away from the year being half over. This year has also been filled with surprises, disappointment, loss, adventure, and so much more. My grasp of time is still making my life an adventurous experience all on its own.
Nevertheless, we have a new issue up this month. Sam Tomaino has turned in reviews of many of the print and digital magazines in his Zines & Short Fiction column. Check out his reviews, plus each review has a link to help you find where you can get your own copy.
There's also a number of reviews of books that have been recently published or are hitting the shelves this month. Hopefully, you find something that catches your attention.
You'll also want to check out our June US Books column. Here's where you'll find a listing of all the books being published in June that have arrived in our office. We continue to add to this list throughout the year as new books arrive. The column is sorted by publisher and by title within the publisher listing. There's a short blurb and bibliographic information on each book. Not every book we receive gets a review so here's where you can learn about the books that haven't yet received a review.
You'll notice that our Convention Calendar is a bit thin. There's not that many of us behind the scenes here so if you know of a convention coming up, let us know. See our Announcement area for what information we need to list a convention and use the form at the bottom of this post.
We love to hear from our readers. Every review and article has a reply form at the bottom. Feel free to use it to give us your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions.
Now for our regular announcements:
While we're happy to have a core of great reviewers for SFRevu, we get more books each month than we've got readers for and we'd like to have more. If you have a great desire to review SF/Fantasy for no pay but the glory of a byline, write to us at editor (at) sfrevu.com telling us a bit about yourself and send a 500 word (or so) review of a book that you have recently read (or a link to a review you have written). We should be able to get back to you within the month. (Please let us know what country you reside in -- the cost of mailing books outside the US/Canada may be an issue.)
We have a monthly news column. If you have a news item or announcement that you think would be of interest to readers of SF, send to editor (at) sfrevu.com.
We'd like to maintain a convention calendar at our magazine. We've made a start. However, we don't have time to scour the Internet looking for what's happening in the SF/Fantasy arena. Please send us your convention listings. Send to: editor (at) sfrevu.com with the link to the convention website, dates of the convention, where it is held, perhaps a contact person.
Letters to the Editor(s):
We'd like to hear from you ... yes, you. What do you think of our magazine? How could we make it better? Do you like our reviews? Did you have a different opinion than our reviewer? What are your thoughts on the SF and Fantasy and their subgenres? Write to us at editor (at) sfrevu.com.
Publishers Take Note:
Material sent to us will be listed in our books received column and may also be commented on or reviewed. With few exceptions, material not sent will not be listed or reviewed. Please send materials to SFRevu c/o Gayle Surrette, 16440 Baden Westwood Road, Brandywine, MD 20613.
We're often asked and yes, we do take small press books. Not all books we receive get reviewed but all are listed in our US Books column or UK Books column.
Media People Take Note:
It's rather difficult to review newly released DVDs or other media when we don't get a copy. So, if you'd like us to review something, send material to SFRevu c/o Gayle Surrette, 16440 Baden Westwood Road, Brandywine, MD 20613.
