This was an excellent movie if you like eye candy. It is absolutely glorious in it's marvelous retro feel. The characters, although they are a little clunkier than Nemo, have their own charm.

I must admit the story was a bit flat and predictable - young inventor takes on the city, meets unusual characters, finally wins fame, glory, and girl - but for all that, the graphics and style are really enough to compensate. Some of the vocalizations are wonderful, especially Mel Brooks as Bigweld and Robin Williams as Fender.

The plot consists of a conspiracy to get outmoded robots to upgrade themselves with new stuff by the largest manufacturer of spare parts, which is now no longer making the spare parts. This company is run by a diabolically chromed and spit-shined bad CEO, Ratchet. Our boy Rodney, a tinkerer and inventor, risks all to find the real Big Weld and save all the poor robots. The film's climatic scene, in a recycle factory, is dizzying but hysterical.

The best bit of the movie is a walloping Rube Goldberg-esque public transportation system across town, where you are hit by a giant hammer, are trapped in a ball in a loop-de-loop roller coaster, and caught in a pitcher's mitt.

Go see this for the visuals, I promise you'll go home happy.
