There's a story, possible apocryphal, about a psychologist that locked a monkey in a room and went to watch what he would do by peeping through the keyhole. Much to his surprise, what he saw was the monkey looking back at him. There's a lesson in that somewhere...but one George Orwell hadn't learned.
