In 1932, as the year wanes and the depression deepens, a pair of con men, and the seventeen year old illegal Mexican immigrant they have taken in, scam the 'Gold Coast' of Long Island with fake seances for the rich and grieving. Fake until they become enmeshed in an investigation with another medium to find the kidnapped daughter of a wealthy couple. Ford is one of the best writers we have going, and his thoughtful prose will draw the reader on to the books end, if not beyond.
