Chris's blood is in great demand and he receives an email from a Dr. Pipt who wants his blood because he believes he has developed a process that will gain him immortality. When Chris ignores the letter, a cyborg monster invades his Louisiana compound and tries to siphon his blood. Although, Chris, his vampire, and Zombie bodyguards are able to defeat the monster, Chris knows Dr. Pipt will not give up. Assassination attempts by his rivals injure him and his pregnant fiancée. When she recovers she can't abide his touch because the silver in his system has grown stronger. Not wanting to harm her, he leaves for New York hoping that the doctors in New York, Seattle, or Louisiana will find a cure for his problem.

While there, he undergoes assassination attempts, one from a member of the enclave. He ends up in the hospital where he takes an astral journey to Dr. Pipt's abode and sees the sinister experiments that the doctor is conducting. The Wendigo who brought him there gives him the power to combat the human who is more of a monster than any of the preternatural creatures. His body is in the hospital bed and Chris doesn't know if he will be allowed to reenter it. If he can't he will jump from one body to the next.

This is the third book (See One Foot in the Grave and Dead on My Feet) to star Christopher Csejthe and it is just as satirically funny as the first two novels in the series. In order to keep his sanity, Chris has to keep cracking jokes and not take his condition seriously which leads to readers chuckling out loud at some of his soliloquies. Readers should understand that though Chris spoofs himself, when the situation warrant it, he acts with determination and deadly precision to get the job done and achieve his goal. His mild mannered personality that he shows to master vampires fools them into thinking he is a patsy which turns out to be his greatest weapon.

As time passes, Chris becomes more vampire and less human but in Habeas Corpses; he is given angel blood by the Archangel Michael and an additional power by the Wendigo who wants him to stop the human who is polluting the world with his abominable creations. There are many surprises in this work including the true identity of Dr. Pipt and his final confrontation with the master vamps and how he handles them.
