December isn't the coldest month of the year in the Northern hemisphere, but it is the one during which the days get shortest, courtesy of living on a slightly tilted world. This year's Winter Solstice will occur on December 21st at 1:35 PM...and if you're all very good, the days will start to lengthen again afterwards. At least that's what I've been told to believe...
