However, she and Lexander fall in love. Lexander's evil consort, Helenas, becomes jealous of Marja and she is in danger. To save her from the hands of Helenas, Lexander sends her on a journey with Silveta, a fallen noblewoman who has been banished. Birgir Barfoot, a cruel barbarian, has sworn to have Silveta for his consort. She fears and hates the man and begs Marja to help her. Marja, using trickery and the arts she learned as a pleasure slave, saves Silveta from the hands of the barbarian, but in the process, both Silveta and Marji become fugitives. The outcome of the fiasco is that it leads to a fight between Birgir and Silveta's elderly husband who is the chieftain. It's a violent and bloody fight, but, in the end, Birgir kills Silveta's husband and takes his place as chieftain. According to tribal law, Silveta now belongs to him. She is terrified and vows to kill herself before she allows him to have her. Lexander, who mourns his lost love, has been searching for Marja, and finally finds her with Silveta. They are reunited, but before they can leave to find a life of their own, they must attempt to rescue Silveta and gain their freedom to be together. Susan Wright, author of several science fiction novels, has built a very believable fantasy world. Although erotic, the sex scenes are in good taste. This book carries you away into the exotic world of sex slaves, hardy heroes and barbaric chieftains.
