The piece of future tech I'm most excited to see coming along is the universal translator. No, I haven't seen any on the shelves at the mega-comp-electronics store, though I just reviewed a pretty nifty handheld translation and vocalization program for CMP's personal tech site (link). But the technologies needed for these devices are all coming together, and the need for them is pressing. That sounds like the recipe for new inventions to me.
