When John Fortune (son of famous aces Fortunato and Peregrine) "turns his ace" during a fiasco in Las Vegas, he becomes a target for two rival conspiracies. One group (backed by a zealot ex-President) sees him as the next Messiah, while the other thinks he's the anti-Christ. Caught in the middle is private eye Mr. Nobody, desperate to save his client's life, even as this new round of wild cards brings Fortunato out of exile, shows us Jokertown circa 2003, and pits Billy Ray (aka Carnifex) and rookie ace Midnight Angel against monsters like Butcher Dagon and The Witnesses.
