I actually enjoyed this book more than the previous one. I think the problems with the original stemmed mostly from the way Hetley chose to tell it. In that case it was told from the viewpoint of Gary Morgan, a young man who knew nothing of his true heritage and needed the entire book to be brought up to speed.

But now, Gary's ready to take his legacy and go out and screw things up royally like all teenagers do when they think they know everything. Especially if there's a girl involved, and yes...there is a girl involved. A girl with her own dark and secret past and lots of reasons to be distrustful of people who keep secrets and hint at powers great and not quite totally legal. Together Gary and Jane will have to learn to trust and be honest if they're going to survive just being together. Then there are the plastic wrapped corpses popping up around town; the ones Jane seems to know just a little bit too much about.

Meanwhile Alice Haskell and her protégé Caroline are still dealing with the minor problem of a sorcerer who's just a bit pissed off that they killed him, and whose spirit still has plenty of deadly tricks up its ectoplasmic sleeves. Of course survival, when you're dead, requires a more refined form of food, and when you're out for revenge, that just makes it all the more interesting.

Magic and mayhem, high tech tools and cloak and dagger operations are all combined to make this a face paced and enjoyable read.
