Men, I'm chagrined to say, just aren't good at civilization. It's not that we aren't useful in our own way, but when you have weapons of the scale we've got now, we're just not to be trusted. We're handy if you need to fight off the next village over, but when you live in a global village, that's just not an option. I'm of the opinion that it's primarily gender based, but that doesn't mean that women can't learn male modes, it's just something I'd rather not encourage.
