The Winter 2007 issue of Shimmer is another good one. I thought all the stories were Very Good. It includes fantasy by n.a. bourke, Philip J. Lees. Stephen L. Moss, Cat Rambo and Amal El-Mohtar. It also has science fiction by Michael Livingston and Dario Ciriello and what we'd have to call a horror story by Mike Driver.

The Winter 2007 issue of Shimmer was thoroughly enjoyable. All the stories got a Very Good from me. The issue starts out with "Juana and the Dancing Bear" by n.a. bourke. This is set in the court of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. Their daughter, Juana, is afflicted with cerebral palsy but she meets with a "bear" who takes her to a special place. I called this a fantasy but it might be science fiction. Either way, it's a good story. In "Duets", Philip J. Lees features a man who seduces woman using a special guitar. Then, he meets a woman who is more than usual. "Tom Cofferwillow Comes Undone" by Stephen L. Moss is a wild tale about three men who run afoul of a magic book. It's really bad for one of them.

"Catch of the Day" by Michael Livingston features a college professor who goes fishing with an alien and winds up catching more than just fish. Cat Rambo's "Eagle-haunted Lake Sammamish" tells us the tale of a couple who buys a plot of land that has something different on it.

"Night Milling" by Mike Driver is a chilling tale of an ex-cop trying to take out the bad guys. Dario Ciriello's "Dwell on Her Graciousness" is science fiction but very mystical, blending goddess worship and a spacial anomaly. The issue concludes with "Sparrow and Egg" by Amal El-Mohtar, a nice little story of birth.

This is an attractive little magazine and well worth your money!
