Sylvie is an interesting character. She's seems to be level headed and capable but this case is anything but normal. There are enough magical and governmental obstacles in her path to put a crimp in anyone's day and taking it all on while grieving for her lost partner means that she's not quite on her game. Still, the world is fairly well thought out, once you catch on to the magic system and how the gods work, you can pretty well figure out who can and can't do what to the others. However, that in no way prepares you for what will happen.

Benedict keeps the tension high from the first chapter barely letting her main character stop to catch her breath, change her clothes or plan her next move. There's some interesting moments between various characters that provide some food for thought as well as moving the plot forward.

This one is a great book to take on vacation. It certainly will make the time pass quickly and it will keep you entertained. The fact that it has a few moments of extremely interesting introspection just adds to its charm.
